Please join us for an informative parenting workshop on Tuesday, November 1, 2011. It will be held in the Media Center from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm. This session is for parents only. Dr. Kari Lenox, along with her colleague, Dr. Carrie Cole, will be addressing the challenges we as parents face raising our children today. Please read below, a short synopsis of the presentation that Dr. Lenox & Dr. Cole will be presenting on the evening of November 1, 2011. There will be no fee for this workshop.

Parenting children is more challenging than ever given our current child-centered culture which focuses more on children's "self esteem" rather than the competent behavior underlying these good feelings about ourselves. Our current generation of children is growing up in an age in which they are the centers of their parents' universe, with many luxuries and privileges in their lives and few attendant responsibilities. This was not true even a few generations ago during a time in which luxuries were few, good behavior was stressed over good feelings about ourselves, and privileges were earned. This talk will focus on the ways in which the present parenting culture fails our children and actually creates less happiness and more stress on them. We will discuss ways in which we, as parents, can rear children to become more competent, responsible, and caring individuals who have good feelings about themselves based upon their good behaviors in the world.

I am so very glad I went! Thank you for having this, I have been looking for something like this and would like to see more support type sessions, maybe break it down for individual issues(bullying, video gaming, pop culture etc..) where parents can share ideas , thoughts, "what works for them",advice from the professionals is always a plus!Tonight went very well with alot of topics covered! They were awesome! And parents that shared were VERY helpful as well!
